Restaurants We Recommend:
Though Marion has a large selection of typical run-of-the-mill fast food restaurants, we recommend the following dining establishments for a couple of reasons. Not only are they located within easy walking distance of our inn, but they will provide you with varying types of atmospheres, cuisines, selections, and price points. Choosing from one of these restaurants will make the difference between eating out to merely satisfy your hunger, and creating a memorable dining experience during your visit to Marion.
Black Rooster Restaurant
(Lunch T-F 11AM - 2PM Dinner T-Sat 5PM - 9PM)
Black Rooster Lounge and Gallery (M-Sat 5PM - 11PM)
(Both are located inside The General Francis Marion Hotel)
107 E. Main Street, Marion, VA 24354
Reservations (recommended on weekends): 276-783-4800 or 877-783-4802 NON-SMOKING
The
Black Rooster Restaurant and The Black Rooster Lounge and Gallery give their patrons a choice in dining atmospheres. Both the restaurant and lounge offer the same menu, however The Black Rooster Restaurant has more of a “fine dining”
atmosphere, while the Lounge is more casual and laid back. Don’t worry, though, business-casual dress is still fine for the restaurant -- as is a coat and tie should you want to be a bit more fancy. Oh! please don’t construe “fine dining”
with being “hoytie-toytie” though . . . the restaurant is very comfortable and relaxing, with an unpretentious elegance -- while providing some truly outstanding menu creations by Chef Marcus Blackstone.

Shields come from two of the nation’s top culinary institutions, Charlie Trotter’s and Alinea, trading urban Chicago for the inspiration of the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains. The result is unpretentious chef-driven cuisine complemented by impeccable service that is presented in a beautifully renovated historic building in the heart of downtown Chilhowie, VA.
Every evening, Certified Court of Masters Sommelier Charlie Berg bridges the ‘Old World, New World with Our World’ with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence-winning wine list that boasts an ever-changing selection of wines by the glass and half bottle.
