We created this page to give you a glimpse of our renovation that took just shy of 5-1/2 years to complete. We purchased the property August 2, 2002 and had our first guest December 1, 2007. If you are wondering what took us so long -- it's because we did just about all of the work ourselves. During that time we also became actively involved in the local community -- even, at times, slowing down on our project to help others with theirs.

Following is a "CliffsNotes" version of our journey: Dave completely gutted the entire house, removed all of the trim from the windows, doors, baseboards, etc. (all of which was completely stripped and repainted), rebuilt the bulk of the enclosed side porch, and added on a new back addition which houses a 2-car garage and mud room on the lower level and our kitchen and laundry rooms on the second level. We reworked all of the window sashes -- removed the old glazing and glass, stripped them down to bare wood, and then put them back together again. The previous owner had glued commercial carpeting to the original hardwood floors throughout the entire house, so we painstakingly used stripper and putty knives to remove the old adhesive prior to refinishing the floors.

When time came to replace what had been ripped out during the gutting phase, Dave installed radiant floor heat throughout, installed all new plumbing and electrical components, had polyurethane foam insulation sprayed into all of the walls and ceilings before installing the drywall, and installed central air-conditioning.

There is much more we could share, as you can well imagine, but these few details give you the highlights. We've included some before and after photos  -- as they will show far more than any words can describe.
